Shadowfever (Fever #5) by Karen Marie Moning

{YES, I've listened to this book on audio and YES this post contains spoilers, as I am reviewing a book!! LOL! may contain questionable language, discretion is advised! Excerpt below from Good Reads.}

Shadowfever (Fever #5)

"Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes it's good."
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.
Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.
What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.
In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.
Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?
From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.

Okay... so. Wow. I just finished the above book, 5th book in the Fever Series~ Shadowfever and I've got the whole gambit of emo's going on right now! LOL! Gonna be frank here, (when am I not?!) I had to shut it off before listening to the strange ass fucking "Song" at the end. WTF was that? I got about 1.5 minutes in and um, yeah. It's some strange music with a sitar going on and uhhh, PHIL GIGANTE's voice saying random, creepy, sexy things... I never honestly thought I could feel embarrassed sitting home ALONE in a room, (my cat's even upstairs sleeping) but my cheeks got all hot and red and I cleared my throat and plucked out my ear buds and said out loud "Okay, enough of that... I'm good bro." LOL! It was that... disturbing? It bordered on sexy and creeptastically ODD! I dunno. *shudder* but since that was the last thing I HEARD from my mp3 player, it's fresh in the ol' noggin'! Sorry. Most, if not all, of you don't do the audiobook thing, but this was quite the errrr... "production". The dude's got the voice of the sexiest thing EVER walking this earth, I swear to god! Gigante does Barrons voice just like... so... well, that I think he may be my #1 favorite male narrator now! I'm sorry Holter Graham, step aside and take a back seat! :P Seriously though, this book was fantastic. I had left my last blog entry all freaked out and anxiety ridden, worrying that what I thought was going to happen, WOULD happen, and well, yeah, it DID happen, but it ended up being not so horrific as I thought it would be, even though I sniffled and privately sobbed like a baby through the first freaking half of the book! LOL! I know, mushy baby! Shuddup! This was the culmination of all the whole story, the "ending" for this plot (even though she's done a spin off, "Iced" which is Dani's book, but I am going to pass on that, I think!) and it was a fantastic ending. This whole series has been awesome, I'm SOOO glad that I finally sucked it up and started it! The sexy sexy took a couple of books, but once it took stage, it was my weakness, hahah! It made me HAVE to love the book, and I did! *bashful* This last one was a bit long, definitely not THE longest book I've ever listened to (um, hello Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon!) but it felt like it was kinda dragging along in parts, though it quickly picked back and moved right along for me. Everything balanced out and there was plenty of twists and turns to keep me on my toes and interested enough to finally fall madly in love with it! I recommend this series to ANYONE and EVERYONE, and even though I have that book mourning thing going on right now, I have many lined up on my mp3 player that I'm sooo excited to give a listen! Just not sure which I'll pick next! :) Happy reading everyone!

This book and WHOLE series gets:

Up next... I've several loaded up and ready for my ears:

Dreamfever (Fever #4) by Karen Marie Moning

Dreamfever (Fever #4)

As the enigmatic Jericho Barrons and the sensual Fae prince V’lane vie for her body and soul, as cryptic entries from her sister’s diary mysteriously appear and the power of the Dark Book weaves its annihilating path through the city, Mac’s greatest enemy delivers a final challenge.…
It’s an invitation Mac cannot refuse, one that sends her racing home to Georgia, where an even darker threat awaits. With her parents missing and the lives of her loved ones under siege, Mac is about to come face-to-face with a soul-shattering truth—about herself and her sister, about Jericho Barrons…and about the world she thought she knew.

{THIS TOTALLY CONTAINS SPOILERS - DON'T READ UNLESS YOU REALLLLY WANT TO!}

Hi!!! So... HOLY FECKING SHIT!!!! I just finished this book and although I was daydreaming for a while now about what I was going to say about this book and why it was just OFF PUTTING for me, the fecking end is like a CLIFF HANGER FROM HELL!!! oh holy hell!!! I literally reached for my mp3 player, shut it off and scrambled over to my desk to get the final book loaded and started- but then I thought, DAMN, I have to do a review!!! So yeah. I'm letting my mp3 player charge for a little while and I just loaded up the 5th and final book in this Fever series to start it right after I post this! LOL! So... back to my "off putting" remark... well I had noted a few other words down as well such as 'uncomfortable', strange direction the book was taking, odd 'animal mentality' Mac was going through in the beginning (pri'ya) which I kinda get but it still was read oddly and felt uncomfortable! And I've heard a very tiny handful of books read in such a way as this one, where a talented female reader, in this case it's Natalie Ross, reads the actual narration of the book and any female speaking parts, and the ohhhh soooo lovely Phil Gigante reads any male speaking parts. I've heard books set up this way before, and they are... interesting. There is a bit of a strangeness when books are outlined this way, because obviously the two readers aren't sitting where ever reading their parts TO one another when there are speaking parts in the book, so it feels very strange, and like the listener KNOWS that fact and it's a little unsettling, because when the speaking parts are "pieced together" they feel disingenuous and just, out of place, off putting and over all... odd! It's a strange little feeling listening to a female read and then when you anticipate her to take on a male voice in a male speaking part (which many female readers do quite well, it's shocking!) and this rumbly often times gravely and dark voice comes out of the headphones, especially when it's Gigante's voice- his is other worldly to say the LEAST, it's just startling and takes damn near the whole book to kinda get the flow of and often times I'm fairly distracted when he voices the male characters, that my brain kinda tweaks out a little! LOL! Anyway... the plot was very strange in the beginning with Mac having gone Pri'ya... which is a pretty much fae sex addiction, and well Barrons takes it upon himself to "treat and cure" her addiction using himself. Now that kind of bothered me, I did NOT want their relationship to "go there", THAT way! UGH! Bad call Moning! I have a strong fondness for Barrons at this point, AND Mac (even though the "Mac" in this book is a little too much, too cocky, too annoying and just TOO MUCH but I digress!) and the coupling in such a way was just icky... it left a bad taste in my mouth! And the CLIFF HANGER AT THE END..... GOOD GOD!!!!!!!!!!!! I sear to god, when I plug book 5 in and start listening, if it's what I think it is... I am going to BAN ever listening to another fecking Moning book for as long as I live!!!! I honestly have a sick sinking feeling in my tummy regarding the cliff hanger, and am petrified!!!! Eeeeeep!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay... so... because it felt funny in the beginning and took a while to 'come around', I gave his one:

NEXT: BOOK 5 AT LONG LAST....

Faefever (Fever #3) by Karen Marie Moning

{YES, I've listened to this book on audio and YES this post contains spoilers, as I am reviewing a book!! LOL! may contain questionable language, discretion is advised! Excerpt below from Good Reads.}

Faefever (Fever #3)

The New York Times bestselling author of Darkfever and Bloodfeverreturns to Dublin’s Fae-infested shores in a bold, sensual new novel. Hurtling us into a realm of seduction and shadows, Karen Marie Moning tells the enthralling tale of a woman who explores the limits of her mysterious powers as she enters a world of ancient sorcery—and confronts an enemy more insidious than she could ever have imagined.

He calls me his Queen of the Night. I’d die for him. I’d kill for him, too.When MacKayla Lane receives a torn page from her dead sister’s journal, she is stunned by Alina’s desperate words. And now MacKayla knows that her sister’s killer is close. But evil is closer. And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil, it corrupts anyone who touches it.
Mac’s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shape-shifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V’lane, an insatiable Fae prince of lethally erotic tastes, and Jericho Barrons, a man of primal desires and untold secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.
As All Hallows’ Eve approaches and the city descends into chaos, as a shocking truth about the Dark Book is uncovered, not even Mac can prevent a deadly race of immortals from shattering the walls between worlds—with devastating consequences.…

So... howdy! Again! These books are awfully short, but holy smokes! I'm glad they are older ones that I can horde and stock up on and listen to one right after another because after THIS books freaking ending cliffhanger I would have DIED if I had to wait to start book 4!!! LOL! If you couldn't tell I'm basically loving this series but am sad that I've only two more books until Moning decides to start the series spinoff about Dani, whom to me is a seriously obnoxious, worthless character! LOL! I don't prefer her AT ALL. I'm loving my sweet pink painfully naive Mac! AND her strange, bizarre relationship with Jericho. I think I might do the pro's and con's set up with this book because there were some things in this book that annoyed the shit out of me and are irking me...

Con's:
So for me, the cons start out slowly, and sort of crescendo (yeah, I used the word...) there at the utter cliffhanger ending... which would be another con if I didn't have book 4 already loaded up on my mp3 player, LOL! So... the book has it's hinky and utterly corny moments, such as... the freaking bikini / beach scenes she keeps having with Vlane. Gah! Those are getting worse and worse to grit my teeth and listen to, especially this last one in a freakin' gold lame' bikini?! Really? She's afraid of being near Jericho and his 'NESS and worried about her skirt riding up a little while they rumble and tumble around, but doesn't mind strutting all over a beach with VLANE of all people in a skimpy redonkulously tacky bathing suit?! Really?! *shaking me head* Just silly. And getting old. Another con would HAVE been the lack of sex, but um, the last like 5 minutes had my eye balls popping out and muttering to myself while attempting graphic design "Uhh, well that escalated quickly..." Holy smokes. Now I just need Moning to slow that shit down a notch and gimme a little more details than: and I had one in my mouth and one behind me. ROFL! Yeah, I went there...

Pro's:
So the first major pro for me and moment that really went AH-HA (well there are several....) was the birthday cake moment in the book. It really... hmmm, meant something to me. It was almost like the straw that broke poor Barrons' back! That poor man, or whatever he is. The fact that Mac is so blind to his... male'ness is also another 'con that I probably should have added up above there... ^^^ ! It's awfully frustrating for a reader/listener, so I can't possibly fathom the feelings the male character is going through...

I mentioned that perhaps Barrons is a man a second ago... and obviously for those who're reading, haven't read, or have already read this series you KNOW what he is, because it's got to be revealed at some point, but I have my sneaking suspicions of what, in fact, he is, and really am not sure if I should mention it here because I don't want to ruin anyone else's read of the book, so I won't! But just KNOW that I think I KNOW! And I am wondering if I am right or wrong, or?! It's suspenseful and awesome, I'm completely in love with these books! heheh! Which is interesting because I had given a listen to Moning's Highlander series and couldn't get past oh, book 3? or 4? The time travel thing was a wee too silly for me and confusing (I have a time travel issue... leave me alone!) but I do recall the vague mention of fae in the series and am thinking maybe they were the same sort of fae? Same characters? Or is this series before the Highlander ones? I dunno, might have to look into that... would be neat if the two series, though not a spin off, might touch on same names and characters very briefly... I love when that happens! heh! Okay... so wow. This review got long and kinda kooky. I'm going to go get to gettin' and start book 4 right away! I can't wait- ALTHOUGH I've just sneaked and noticed that book 4 isn't being read by Joyce Bean and have to say that her lovely voice and accents will be seriously missed! ;)

Absolutely lovin' this series:

Bloodfever (Fever #2) by Karen Marie Moning

{YES, I've listened to this book on audio and YES this post contains spoilers, as I am reviewing a book!! LOL! may contain questionable language, discretion is advised! Excerpt below from Good Reads.}

Bloodfever (Fever #2)

I used to be your average, everyday girl but all that changed one night in Dublin when I saw my first Fae, and got dragged into a world of deadly immortals and ancient secrets. . . . In her fight to stay alive, MacKayla must find the Sinsar Dubh—a million-year-old book of the blackest magic imaginable, which holds the key to power over the worlds of both the Fae and Man. Pursued by assassins, surrounded by mysterious figures she knows she can’t trust, Mac finds herself torn between two deadly and powerful men: V’lane, the immortal Fae Prince, and Jericho Barrons, a man as irresistible as he is dangerous.
For centuries the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands between them.

Hello, hello! I'm back! Like I thought I would be, this book was short, like the one before it, but I'm really starting to fall head over heels for this series! Honestly! I really loved this second book, it had the right balance of just about everything in it and the suspense regarding what and who Jericho really is is just about killing me! Hah! I hope I learn a lot more in book 3! I had mentioned on Facebook that I was completely loving this series but it needed like actual SEX. LOL! It's getting there, and I hoping that it's worth the wait, if it even happens! Which I'm hoping it does! Anyway, I have book 3 loaded up and can not wait to start it up and continue on with this crazy little journey that this series is taking me on!!! Weee!!! :)

Absolutely deserving of:

...and book 3 is next!

See you soon! :)

Darkfever (Fever #1) by Karen Marie Moning

{YES, I've listened to this book on audio and YES this post contains spoilers, as I am reviewing a book!! LOL! may contain questionable language, discretion is advised! Excerpt below from Good Reads.}

Darkfever (Fever #1)

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

So yeah. Hi again! This was seriously THE shortest audiobook I think I've ever listened to... it was literally 8 hours and 57 minutes! Didn't even get to 9 hours! LOL! It may not be THE shortest, actually, but it definitely is one of them for sure! I'm not sure if that's just FIRST BOOK SYNDROME or if all of her audiobooks are going to be like that in this series, but it's kinda a bummer! And yes, FTR, at this moment, I'm too lazy to go check LOL! I just spent long enough hunting around to find out what other books this narrator,
Joyce Bean, had read other than this book- and that took a lot out of me! I could have sworn it was read by the same woman who read the Sookie Stackhouse books because it was all very southern Georgia peach and very familiar as in the writing style, the reading style, just about everything about it smacked of those books, which isn't entirely too terrible, they are cute books, but yeah... so, I thought the person who read these was the same... but alas! She wasn't, very sounds a lot like her! The southern twang the reader gives the main character Mack, is kind of annoying a little bit, but the Irish brogue she gives the others while in Dublin is mildly pleasant so it all balanced out pretty well! Hah! I wasn't overly fond of the reminding of how blonde and perfect she was, that was a little obnoxious, but Moning balanced THAT out with the adorable banter between the main character Mack and her counterpart Jericho (terrible name, btw, that doesn't even sound remotely Irish... *head shake* anyway...) it reminds me of the Night Huntress books and the fun banter between Cat and Bones they had in the very beginning of the series! That's always fun to listen to and to give a little chuckle at. The book was a good start and I'm eager to read the others in the series. I've heard nothing but good things about this series (rave reviews, actually) so, again, I'm looking forward to this second book and will be loading it up soon after I give my poor mp3 player a charge. Generally it can go days on end without a charging, but lately, since it's on it's last leg, it's wanting to charge more frequently! That's okay because I LITERALLY listened to the whole book all day. From 10 am, to just bow about 5:30 pm! LOL! So yeah... see you all again probably soon since these are extremely short books! :)

I gave this one: it's a good start!
