Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed #11)

by
Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

Hello, hello!!! :) Well, I just finished up the above book, Edge of Dawn by Lara Adrian today! I almost didn't want it to end!!! LOL! Lara Adrian... WHEW! I have to hand it to her...! She's a friggen GENIUS! I've read all of the other Breed books, just never when I had this review blog up and running, so I'm very well versed in the Breed! I was so excited for a new Breed book that I got my hot little hands right on a copy a couple days after it was released to audio... anyway. Back to why Adrian is a genius!!!! Well, she pretty much started this book about 20 yrs AFTER the last book. Almost felt like REALLY 20 yrs, hah! Not really, maybe a year or year and a half? But yeah, the plot/characters... FAST FORWARD 20 years! Sooo strange! I remember when Kenyon tried that with one of her League books and it threw my ass for a loop, but this one I gave a good solid go at it conceptually and thought 'GENIUS'! She found a way to breathe new life into the same sort of story and plot that could have grown stale (male breed searching for breed mate etc). The stories are all relatively similar, but the way she left this book hangin', she is definitely picking up on a different direction / going to explain a lot more, it's truly very exciting! She's opened a doorway for the younger breeds and their mates to grow (which the main character - Mira has done, shes like in her 30's now) and start their own lives, but their parents whom we all know and love from the past 10 books in the series are all in the book too, which was so refreshing and familiar- I loved it! So, we have touched on Mira but as a young girl in the past books and now this one picks up with her over 30 years old, so I was like holy smokes! Didn't know if I was going to necessarily like that too much, but the plot and how everything flowed, there was plenty of time for Adrian to fill in the gaps- and fill in the gaps, she did! I absolutely loved everything about this book and think that Adrian doesn't get enough props! LOL! It was so nice to fall back into a book that was so familiar and just flowed so easily and effortlessly. There were plenty of action filled ups and downs to keep me highly entertained and enough bow-chicka-bow-bow for me not to get overly bored! It was a perfect harmony of all aspects that I truly love in my books that I listen to. And speaking of listening- the lovely Hillary Huber is reading this, as she has done all previous books in the series, so her voice was a nice, familiar sound! She has this uncanny ability to create a male voice that is soooo male, that is borders on completely skeevy, but I'm a huge fan of hers! She's a magnificent narrator! :) Anyway, I got my hands on Mizzzz Showalters newest angel book and am chompin' at the bit to get it started! Squeee! can't wait!

This book totally deserved and got from me:

So excited, up next:
