Hello lovely readers! Well, here I am back a lot sooner than I thought I would be, but this book I just finished was one of those ones where I listened all day and all night pretty much! Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost was a slow starter for me, and book # 1 of a series that got pretty good star ratings on Good Reads. That's basically what drove me to start this series as opposed to the other series I have on my TBR list. I went and scoped out the average rating of each of the books in the series and this series appeared to have the highest rating- so that did it for me, I started the first book a few days ago. Like I said, it was a bit of a slow starter, and I was like WTF is this even about, but once it got going, it didn't stop! It was like a rock picking up momentum down a hill. It lulled in the middle for a bit, but the emotion involved really brought it to my attention and the ending... GAH! Heart wrenching! :'( No... no real spoilers from me, don't worry. Just an overall good book and I am happy to have the 2nd book in the series loaded up and will start that today.
So... pro's to this book... there are great emotions involved and a lot of "my mind says NO but my body says yes" type of situations ROFLMAO! Cat is the main heroine and she's pretty cute (in my minds eye at least), pretty bad ass in her own little way and I can't wait to go on the journey the rest of the books are going to take me on, that's for sure! Great imagery in the book too- Frost is a great writer who gives JUST ENOUGH detail without it getting overly saturated in page after page of he color of someone's hair, or how their eyes shone! It was a great read (errrr... listen??) and the ending held SOOOO much promise!
Con's of the book... oh my gosh. DAT ACCENT!!!!!!!! Tavia Gilbert was the narrator, and I'd have to look, but she sounded vaguely familiar in her reading style. (...actually... as I typed "and I'd have to look," I went and gave her a search on audible.com and YEP, I knew I recognized her voice and style, she read the Shadow Wrangler Series by Sarah McCarty- which I didn't finish, I had listened to about three of the books, but they got kinda boring??? Sorry, no offence to McCarty! :P) So... DAT ACCENT! Tavia killed me! The main male character is named Bones (or his real name is Crispin oooo la la! Love that name better but I digress....) and well, he's British, with a pretty thick english accent. Now, at the very end of the book, the accent was only getting slightly grating, and finally at last the image popped into my head... it sound exactly like the Geico gecko!!!! NOOOO!!! SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!! Yep... I said it. Sounds precisely like the green little dude who can save you a bunch on your car insurance... *sigh* So with that freakish accent aside, (who's idea was that anyway?! People either LOVE it or HATE it, I just know it!) I really liked when Bones got lovey dovey and intimate! It was a softer, sweeter side of him that pulled at my heart strings. And the very last sentence of the book got my insides churning and I'm itching to start that second book! Like NOW! Bones was completely cheeky and loves the crap out of Cat (although I think the "love" came a wee bit too quickly given that Cat was soooo adamant about hating vamps... hmmm) which is sweet too, but ehhhh, IDK where the other books are going to go, but like I said, it was a great beginning and I can tell a whole world is going to open up and is going to be great!
So all in all, a great read, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to start the second book in the series. Fantastic! :) Check back soon for book 2's review!
